With over a decade of career and professional development coaching experience, Caroline Dowd-Higgins has a desire to empower and energize people to achieve their personal goals. Her training style is engaging, high energy, and positive with a focus on unlocking the self-advocate within each of us.
She recently began a new role as Director of Professional Enrichment for the Indiana University Alumni Association. Spearheading an expanded alumni career enhancement and leadership development program to activate the power of the Indiana University alumni network, she helps alumni navigate the five seasons of lifetime career engagement. With a focus on the powerful global network of IU alumni, she aims to create a culture of professionals who become catalytic connectors and back one another throughout their lives.
An official blogger for the Huffington Post, Caroline also contributes to AOL, CNN Money, and More Magazine online. She focuses on career and professional development topics and also pens a monthly column for The Chronicle newspaper in Northern Indiana. Her articles have been picked up for international distribution and she is a sought after talk radio guest for career themed broadcasts. She also hosts the national weekly CBS Radio show: Career Coach Caroline at 5pm ET on Tuesdays.
An accomplished public speaker, Caroline is a member of the National Speaker’s Association and enjoys presenting to audiences across the nation. She is adept at helping individuals fine tune their communication skills to improve their professional public image and effectiveness in the workplace. A frequent workshop facilitator for corporate and nonprofit entities, Caroline enjoys personal coaching and group sessions to help maximize communication effectiveness, on-the-job performance, and career satisfaction.
Her formal education includes a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Her many years singing on the professional stage have helped her hone the fine art of self-promotion and stage presence. She has significant experience working with college students helping them transition from academia into the world-of-work and she also enjoys working with a diverse clientele of all ages and backgrounds in her private practice.
As a testimony to the power of transferable skills, prior to establishing her consulting practice, Caroline worked as a professional opera singer in Europe and the United States. She has also appeared in a myriad of commercials, voice-over spots, industrial films and live theatrical productions as a featured actress.
Caroline’s goal is to empower women, so it’s unsurprising that her first book This Is Not the Career I Ordered focuses on women who have experienced a career transition and reinvented themselves in the job world. The book and blog of the same name serve as a resource and an inspiration for women who have survived a career change brought about by choice or necessity. Caroline aims to provide empowering strategies and action steps to help others move forward and she is currently working on a 3-part series for Public Television about career and life empowerment for women.
