Don’t Get Stuck in the “It will Get Better When” Mindset

Life is precious and we often delay our sense of gratification, celebration, or contentment because we are focusing on what might happen someday.
If you find yourself in the someday trap:
- It will get better when…I land the new role.
- It will get better when…my toxic boss moves on.
- It will get better when…the kids are out of the house, and I can focus on my life.
Try flipping the script to find gratitude and recognize what’s going well right NOW.
You can still focus on the future and aspire to do great things, but don’t wait to be happy or fulfilled.
There are many different paths to happiness and prosperity, and you deserve to define success on your own terms.
Recognize and celebrate what you are doing now that brings you joy and satisfaction. You can still have a plan for the future but don’t let it rob you of celebrating what’s wonderful now.
I’m celebrating a great keynote experience at SHRM Talent 2025 in Nashville this week. I still have great plans for the future, but I am savoring this current success and all the work I put in along the way.
