Take Time to Focus on Yourself and Reframe COVID-19
The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted all of our lives. Careers, relationships, and personal projects are all on hold while we wait for the world to settle into a new normal. Many people have found their mental health has suffered with the heightened stress. Small businesses worldwide are struggling to stay afloat. With all the tragedy and disaster in the news, it can be hard to find the silver lining. Yet by changing your mindset, you can choose to view this disruption as an opportunity to change your life for the better.
When you focus on the heated social media debates and disturbing news headlines, it’s easy to see everything through a dark cloud, but take a moment to think about the positive. You have an opportunity to reframe and focus on yourself. Consider this as a new star, a chance to give yourself permission to focus on yourself and consider what you need and want out of life.
Here are several ways you can reframe the negativity of the COVID-19 quarantine to make a positive impact on your personal growth.
Learn Something and Stimulate Your Brain
It’s always a good time to expand your knowledge and learn something new. Whether you went to university or not, this could be an opportunity to study something you’ve wanted to learn about but never had the time. Perhaps you want to earn qualifications to further your career or move to a new industry. Maybe you want to learn a new language or equip yourself to do that aspirational DIY project at home. Whatever it is, there’s never been a better time to become more informed.
Improve Your Relationships
If you live at home with your children, or partner this required home time is a blessing in some ways. It means you can use this time together to become closer as a family. With young children, it may be a challenge to continually find ideas to keep them entertained, but there are many options if you get a bit creative. Try starting a new family hobby you can do together or going for daily walks and discover new outdoor destinations.
Enhance Your Physical Fitness
The gyms are open on a limited basis but you may not yet be ready to venture out. Luckily it’s easy to get fit at home with a few simple pieces of equipment, a local running route, or a free online workout. Use this time to focus on your physical well-being and consider how you can work towards your personal best.
Boost Your Mental Wellbeing
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health, and this is a particularly stressful time for everyone. Take steps to look after yourself by avoiding negative news and social media, spending time outdoors, and meditating. Start with short meditations for a few minutes at a time to get quiet and be still. Or, consider a walking meditation and experience the outdoors with all 5 senses as you breathe in fresh air.
Start Your Passion Project
Perhaps you have personal project that you’ve been dreaming about for years but never started. Now is that time. Whether it’s writing a book, building a shed, or setting up your own side-hustle business, you can capitalize on this new beginning to make it happen.
