What’s Whipsering to You?
I taped the last episode of the Oprah show and watched it with pen in hand since I knew she would be sharing some amazing wisdom worth repeating and I wanted to take notes. My biggest take-away was that nobody but you is responsible for your life. As Oprah eloquently said – “You are responsible for the energy that you create for yourself, and you are responsible for the energy that you bring to others.”
Oprah referenced Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, a brain scientist who resides in my town. I’ve met Jill and read her astonishing book My Stroke of Insight which chronicles her personal stroke and journey to recovery. When Jill appeared on the Oprah show she talked about the energy she could feel when people entered her hospital room after her stroke. While she could not speak or remember her own mother, she could sense the energy each person shared (or didn’t) with her.
The lesson that Jill relayed is about taking responsibility for the energy you bring into a space and it’s now one of Oprah’s favorite lessons. I also find it compelling. We all want to be validated – to be seen, heard, felt, and appreciated. This is human nature because what we say matters. Consider how you are validating the people in your life and how you are seeking validation.
I challenge you to be cognizant of the energy you bring to your world each day. Get quiet with yourself and really consider what you want so you can hear your passion speak to you. We each have a calling and if we can listen to what is whispering to us – we can answer the calling and play to our passions. We can control the kind of energy we evoke and create a life that reflects what we value.
Life is energy and we transmit it at every moment of each day. Like Oprah said – “We are all little beaming signals like radio frequencies, and the world is responding in kind.” Stop and listen to what is whispering to you and answer your calling because you deserve it.
