Who’s in Your Corner?
I talk a lot about assembling your team or Personal Board of Directors because I believe that nothing incredible is accomplished alone. Jessica Hagy wrote a greatpiece in Forbes and identified 6 people you want in your corner to help you move your professional goals forward.
The Instigator –this person pushes you and makes you think. They motivate you to get up and try new things and to make things happen. This voice of inspiration will keep you energized and enthusiastic.
The Cheerleader – this individual is a fan, a strong supporter and evangelist for your work, according to Hagy. You must work to make this person feel rewarded, and keep them engaged. They will be your voice of motivation.
The Doubter – believe it or not, you need this person to be your devil’s advocate. They will ask hard questions and anticipate problems before they arise. You need this person since their voice of reason will give you perspective and honesty. Ultimately, they are looking out for you and want you to be successful.
The Taskmaster – this person has the ability to kick you in the tail make you get things done. They will steward your momentum and make sure deadlines and goals are met. The ultimate accountability master – this is the voice of progress.
The Connector – not just a networker, this person helps you find new allies and advocates. They will help you break through roadblocks and find new ways to make things happen. You need this person to reach people and places you can’t. They are the ultimate voice of cooperation and community.
The Example – this is your mentor, your personal hero, and your North Star. You may seek to emulate this person and they remind you that you too can do amazing things. This voice of true authority is someone you want to make proud.
Consider filling your Personal Board of Directors with these types of individuals!
